Hilton Head / Savannah

Our youngest daughter was born on St. Patrick's Day 2 years ago and a last minute decision to celebrate in Savannah prompted us to look at Hilton Head because we were days away from the countries second largest St. Paddy's Day parade.  I know, who woulda thought Savannah, but it's true.  This would be our furthest trip with our newly acquired travel trailer and first trip out of state.  I contacted the Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort , and made reservations.  To my surprise their ratings were 10's across the board and for good reason.  The customer service was fantastic, the facilities and grounds were beautiful, and the location is about as good as it gets.

When you arrive you will drive around in a golf cart they provide to pick out your spot.  They are all privately owned and decorated to the owners style.  Some had water features, while others have stone fire pits.  They do have sites overlooking the bay for a little extra money, and if you stay 4 nights or more they give you a discounted rate.

Growing up in Florida, my wife and I are somewhat beach snobs but the beaches on Hilton Head were amazing.  Particularly Coligny Beach , it has free parking just before the roundabout , nice shops and restaurants, clean bathrooms and a beautiful beach.  Its just a short ride from Hilton Head Harbor, but remember to keep cash on you as there are tolls on the island.

Savannah

Savannah is a city we love and visit often, however we have never been for the the St. Patricks Day Parade, it's an event you have to experience at least once in your lifetime.  The rich history of the city, old cemeteries and squares filled with oaks covered in Spanish Moss are unlike any other place in the country.  The parade last nearly 3.5 hours from start to finish and the party goes long into the night.  Travelling in with 2 kids we obviously opted to leave before the real shenanigans went down, but we enjoyed every minute of the parade.

If you don't make it in for the parade, make sure to make your way down to River Street.
